A Delightful Experience
From my window I spotted a bright colored feather.
It was stuck in the bird feeder that I had put together.
Attached to the feather was a gorgeous looking bird.
I slowly opened my creaking window,
And he stared at me when he heard.
I leaned over and carefully untangled his feather.
I said "Pretty bird, I hope you will soon feel better."
To my amazement he touched my hand with his beak,
Then after a second , he emitted a very loud squeek.
"Thank you", I think he was trying to say.
He glanced back at me and then flew away.
As I was closing the window, to my utter surprise,
Pretty bird returned to the feeder where he calmly perched,
Then he gazed deeply into my eyes.
I blew a kiss to the bird I had rescued,
Lifted my hand and sadly waved goodbye
As he gracefully flapped his wings,
And vanished once again in the sky.
I'll always remember the kiss from his beak,
And the squeaky sound that he made.
He seemed to be talking to me.
He wasn't the least bit afraid.
Whenever I recall our encounter,
It gives my heart a lift.
I'll always be pleased that I was instrumental
In helping nature's beautiful gift.
