October 2015
I am originally from Springfield, Ohio, and currently live in London, Ohio. I write poetry to make sense of the world and my place in it. I have been fortunate to have my work accepted for publication in several print and online magazines.
Not Far From Downtown
Ten-point buck
lies camouflaged in a gray field
behind the industrial park,
factories on the outskirts
of the city.
Red-tailed hawk,
fat as a football,
sits barrel-chested
in a bare tree along the interstate
waiting on roadkill.
The Budweiser plant
sits steaming from stacks,
huge in the cold night,
neon sign red and Christmas-like
in the winter sky.
It resembles a chemical facility,
is a chemical facility.
Traffic, quick on the outer-belt
carries strangers
zipping through the night.
Suddenly home,
inside the comfort
of the suburbs,
warm glow of dwellings
on a secluded cul-de-sac.
