October 2015
I am a 40-year-old computer science major with a passion for poetry and nature. I am a fraternal twin, born from an alcoholic father and an immigrant mother. I grew up on the outskirts of New Orleans and fell in love with the city's unique culture, which has had a big influence on me. The works you see on Verse-Virtual are my first published works.
But Why?
He chose to join me in my stroll
This little man of five
With big sharp eyes and open ears
This boy so much alive
He saw and heard no end of things
And chatted, never shy
He asked a million questions
When answered, asked “but why?”
“But why do dogs bark like that?
Is that the way they talk?
And why do birdies use their wings?
Is that the way they walk?”
He wondered why the squirrel’s tail
Was longer than it’s head
And why the grass was always green
And never blue instead.
He made me do some thinking
This little five year old
So much I took for granted
The things he must be told
His eyes were full of wonder
My eyes had failed to spy
May God bless that little fellow
Who always asked “but why?”
