A b o u t V e r s e - V i r t u a l
Verse-Virtual is an online community journal of poetry.
—Wow, that's impressive, but what do all those words mean?
I knew you'd ask that... Let me explain... First...
ONLINE
If I had said that thirty years ago you would have said something like huh? But now you know what it means — at least in the simple sense, i.e., Verse-Virtual is a website on the Internet. That doesn't preclude its also being a printed journal, but it's not.
Being online offers many benefits that print journals cannot offer. Among them:
There are many other benefits. They are uncountable... Second...
COMMUNITY
We are all poets. We may choose to be like hermits or we may be among others. Verse-Virtual concerns those who choose the latter option. We have community here; we have communication.
Our communication is of the most fundamental type. All we do is read each other's poems. Then, when we come across poems we really like, we write to the authors to tell them. Just to be human. Just to be kind. Just to be unselfish. Our communication involves no more than that (that and the simple courtesy of replying to persons who write to us).
Small as it is, this bit of interaction is enough to change the traditional hermit-like experience of the traditional hermit-like literary-journal-model into one of togetherness.
To be sure, if all one wants is to be published in a good literary journal, Verse-Virtual is not the right venue to choose. Third...

Besides being a community, (and inseparable from it), Verse-Virtual is a monthly literary journal. We are continually improving the quality of our work. We are growing — somehow — and we are going — somewhere. To be honest, I don't know quite what we are growing into or where we're going — I am usually surprised at the developments which occur here. Although I have a vision of what I want it to be, Verse-Virtual is an entity unto itself. Communities have their own characteristics, and we are gradually defining ours. However, regardless of what these might be, Verse-Virtual is an excellent literary journal which features excellent poetry written by excellent writers. Fourth...

Um... well... how about starting HERE to get some idea of what the heck this thing is...

Being online offers many benefits that print journals cannot offer. Among them:
- We have our archive at our fingertips (or mouse-tips).
- We can make corrections at any time.
- There is no cost to readers and production costs are minimal.
- Design choices are practically unlimited.
- The WWW interface allows for interaction between participants.
