i live about forty miles from London in a place called Basingstoke, Hampshire. I have published some seven collections of poetry and have about a thousand poems floating around the web. But more important to me is if someone I don't know were to send me an email telling me they were moved by my work.
Good
The woman from New York
told me that in New York
you could be nothing too special
because there were so many clever people
geniuses around every corner
you were never quite as good as you thought you were.
I got the feeling she was trying to make a point
telling me I was not as good as I thought I was
but what she didn't know
was that I knew I was no good
and I had always known that.
Lead-less
I woke up in the middle of the afternoon
again.
Thought about going to an open mic.
Instead
I found my book
and read a poem but
not very well.
The light was poor
and my eyesight is going.
In fact it is all going —
even the lead in my pencil.
I don't know what I will do for a hobby
when it does.
The poem was good.
It tells you everything you need to know about me
without even asking.
Not that you would, of course.
