I am an attorney and writer living in Arlington, Virginia. I have two books to my name: Unknown Sands: Journeys Around the World's Most Isolated Country, a first hand account of traveling the central Asian country of Turkmenistan and a legal reference book that has nothing to do with poetry. I keep a blog on books and poems on an unscheduled basis, http://compulsivelyaimless.blogspot.com/ I'm currently writing stories centered around a crayon factory started by my great grandfather.
Escape To Return
I'm that guy
who will plot
a nighttime escape
dodging the search lights
to scale the prison wall
for a mad frolic of freedom
laughing and careening through city streets
but I'm also that guy
who will willingly
break back into prison
and slip into my cell
before sunrise.
Years later
when my sentence is served
and I walk out the prison gates
I'll savor the wild time
even more.
Anti-Spring Poem
I know we're supposed to love Spring
and all of nature's beautiful unfolding
but I wake
every morning
to a bird
singing the same opening notes
of a song
that it never completes
like a neighbor trying to start
a car that won't turn over.
I want to tell that bird
