July 2015
I was born and raised in the parish of Mourneabbey, Mallow, Co Cork, Ireland and now live in Cork City. Previously, I have published one collection of poetry, titled Continuity Errors, with Lapwing Publications in 2010. Since then I have been published in a range of journals, such as Revival Magazine; The Snapping Twig; The Evening Echo; and Rain Party Disaster. In the latter publication I have been selected to be its guest poet for the month of June.
Stock Character
A consummate gentleman is he,
rocked from the foundations in style,
squeezing words outside the box deftly,
notwithstanding theatrics, saving a universe.
While he was at it, he sang songs of history,
of all that went before, beginning, and end
not considering what we are condemned to repeat,
learning nothing, ultimately, an indolent response.
A walk on the wild side soothes curiousity,
choking on your last breath,
handwriting classes put him in good stead,
God knows his next move, side-stepping experience.
Soliciting small beer, a guitar full of remembrance,
wrangling small change from interested punters
the cheek of invading naysayers airspace
repeat your last canon at no-one's expense.
A crowded village, listening to the warmth
does not assuage his weary body,
nor does it slink between crevices, under doors
pervading events recollected, still, losing time.
A husk of what went before. It's not his fault
Should have listened to the warning
Amps bombing the last post and chorus
at the close of dawn, fracturing bygones
