July 2015
I am an attorney and writer living in Arlington, Virginia. I have two books to my name: Unknown Sands: Journeys Around the World's Most Isolated Country, a first hand account of traveling the central Asian country of Turkmenistan and a legal reference book that has nothing to do with poetry. I keep a blog on books and poems on an unscheduled basis, http://compulsivelyaimless.blogspot.com/ I'm currently writing stories centered around a crayon factory started by my great grandfather.
Investing Wisely
Investors say
my money should have a plan,
work hard for me,
forge a path in the market,
compound, diversify, hedge,
instill confidence
to skipper that 50-foot yacht
under sail toward bright horizons
steadfast supporter of my dreams.
But my money is lazy
it slumps down at its desk
failing to pay attention
like a daydreaming student
at the back of the class.
Late at night
when it thinks I'm not looking
I can tell
my money
verges on the irresponsible.
It wants to run away
and join the lottery.
Momentous Convergence
The Internet was invented
for humans to realize
their maximum potential
a momentous convergence
carbon and silicon
allowing us to speed
through glass and steel canyons
in self-driving cars
streaming our cat videos 24/7
