July 2015
I have written poetry and short fiction all my life and published a lot of it. My day job is editor of a trade publication Illinois Racing News. I live on a small horse farm in northern Illinois with my husband and various animals. My latest book "Ribcage" from Glass Lyre Press recently won the 2015 Kithara Book Prize. I also am an associate editor of FutureCycle Press and Kentucky Review.
Chicago January 2015 Final child shot. Score: 4-4. It might as well be Syria or Afghanistan or Somalia. Boxed in gang territories, affiliations can’t be outrun. A car blazes bullets at a group standing on the stoop of a brownstone. Or at the playground, sitting in a van with a shady companion. Totaled like a wreck to be next morning’s Brief headline. A woman sobbing: All gone. Everyone. She says two were bad, had records, Another’s boyfriend let her down, one was simply walking home from school on the wrong Afternoon in Chicago. |
