I am the author of seven poetry books. I have poems featured in numerous worldwide publications , including Prairie Poetry, The Heron’s Nest, Poems Niederngasse, Newtopia, and Barefoot Review. My hobbies are golf, reading whatever book happens to catch my eye, and gardening. I currently reside in Topeka, Kansas.
opportunities
life changes
chances come and go
opportunities are
rarified air to inhale
and exhale
a chance to be
to have
whatever we wish
whatever we might dream
moments to clutch tight
and hold for as long
as we can
special moment
love is
a special moment
found between
the lines
of our next tragedy
we must seize
what we have
before it passes
and we cease
to believe
and forget
to feel
what love
truly is
red shades
you and i
are not alike
my red is different
maybe a shade deeper
and not as bright
make no mistake
my red is not pale
not the dimmer switch
set to dim
or set to bright
the luster isn’t lost
almost ageless
fade resistance
nearly unfounded
across our lifetime
maybe our blue
is the same
but our red
is most assuredly
not
paper ships II
paper ships with paper sails
and not a real sailor in sight
their sea is a large puddle
caught by concrete curb
each ship captained
by young boys
one of them
a younger me
time slips between
paper ship sails
my ship eventually
takes on water
the power of absorption
is often overlooked
by youthful minds
tomorrow it may rain
maybe I’ll make a paper ship
with paper sails and see
how the floatation quality
of today’s paper might
have changed
i sure have
other side
It has been years
many places and faces
too many to know
too many to count
enough for a lifetime
to learn, to grow
to mature, to survive
and become the ancient one
i am not there yet
one hand is on the door
the other, prepared to knock
i expect a mountain top or a river
to be on the other side
and there will be peace
i expect no more
and believe no less
