Currently pursuing an MFA at Southampton College, I’ve always lived between this world and the world of fairytales. Myths and Nature inspire me to poems and stories. At present, I am working on a fantasy novel set in a magical New York and on a memoir of my boarding school days. I also write poetry as often as I can. When I was eight, I presented the bewildered clerk at a bookstore with my diary. It was my hope that he would publish it as a book of poetry. Alas, this was not to be.
Cogito Ergo Sum?
Our bodies lie.
They subvert, pervert, elongate
and elide.
Sweat-soaked, trying to quell
these infidels,
We forget:
we are but the lovely ideas
in our head.
Bookworms
We live in the margins of your stories.
In the soil that bears witness
to your inept toils,
our love grows ripe, and bears fruit.
Our sons and daughters
are the commas that give you pause.
Large, Fat Men
The world is full of large, fat men, jovially unshaven,
often smelly. Such large men are of an academic disposition,
even when loudly check-shirted and selling tea
to abrupt customers nonetheless fanatically loyal.
Large, fat men deceive no one when they look slant-ways
at passing scenes
and parse for sociological insight.
Priding themselves on blistering wit, they are, in reality
pushovers, afraid of hurting a despised someone.
They collect PhDs and parking tickets, flats filled
with art they do not love and compliments
on their chicken tikka masala.
