I am attorney and writer living in Arlington, Virginia. I have two books to my name: Unknown Sands: Journeys Around the World's Most Isolated Country, a first hand account of traveling the central Asian country of Turkmenistan and a legal reference book that has nothing to do with poetry. I keep a blog on books and poems on an unscheduled basis, http://compulsivelyaimless.blogspot.com/
Digital Labyrinth
Grab a headlamp
and find a line of descent
into the labyrinth of
URLs
more dead ends
than enlightened narrative
It's lonely down here
with the
(mis)information
no sign of meaning
listen...
Something more
powerful and impervious
to darkness
a solo
human voice
Waves
Roiling, coiling across the planet
Ocean monsters
Fresh water white caps
Pond ripples
Submerged surface
Wind instigated
Under dark hours and sunsets
Rolling, rolling
Freedom of the seas
When does it become apparent?
Predestination to the shore
Chained procession
Ahead, behind
Isolated, yawing troughs of emptiness
Unfurling lifetimes of energy
Days, hours, minutes
Against shore of sand
Or coast of rocks
White noise
Full and final absorption
Into Darkness
Every day
makes a difference
but inside
the darkened library
I lost that knowledge
Interstate Banquet
Balled bag
cold fries
unopened ketchup packets
not wasted
with crushed Marlboro butt
worth a puff or two
the perfect digestif.
Now served
on a bed of berm
doused in gravel gravy
puddles
fanned by
irregular traffic eddies
milepost 178.
Irony of Loyalty
I make my monsters
loyal
while my friends
come and go.
