Kismet
Taut knots of destiny brought me to you:
I wonder privately how they might unwind,
intuiting that their unraveling eludes premonition.
Unpredictable are the warp and woof of fate.
Heaven jealously guards its veiled mysteries;
its ephemeral sparkles tease helpless mankind.
The master weaver of wonders and dreams
deceives us into believing we are past surprise,
only to elicit abrupt gasps in an instant.
Let me bind cynicism to the altar of sacrifice,
a special gratitude offering to the Almighty
for blessing me with refreshed eyes…seeing you.
The Agnostic’s Prayer
In the absence of a god, may there be godliness
(there would be all the more reason for it).
Yet how might humanity be godly,
how could the possibility even exist,
without any role model, with no guiding light?
From where would mankind draw inspiration?
To whom could we look for hope along the way?
How might morality exist and be defined?
Is God a fiction necessary for life? For sanity?
Should we, do we, willingly suspend disbelief,
yielding to delusion for the sake of peace of mind?
Let us consider these questions in ink and aloud,
questing for truth and understanding,
attuned to wisdom’s gentle whisper,
desperate for an answer—not merely a response—
from either earth or heaven.
