I am a teacher and a poet. I am frustrated by politics, appalled by this rise in lying, and moved by music. I have two collections, Small Consolations (Aldrich Press) and Worth the Candle (Five Oaks Press), as well as a chapbook, Memory Meets Desire (Finishing Line Press). All of these can be found on Amazon. I also took part in the 7th annual NYC Poetry Festival this past summer on Governor's Island.
Prayer for the lost soul
This inconsequential evening,
a random calendar’s spot,
the average one solicits genius
as if it is there to conjure.
No eyebrows raised to heaven
delivers said creative fount.
What arrives is underwhelming
and plentiful in response.
The skeptic raven takes to wing
seeking perspective, carrion,
something to feed the craving
for art beyond survival.
As day fades into cloaked night,
it’s easier to run, to hide,
to feign belief that better days
peek out from distant horizon.
The stage is clogged with actors,
nothing more than petty fools,
dolled up to state the obvious
in fancy, pretty terms.
There needs to be a second act
where talent rises to the fore
& ultimately conquers all
this mediocrity’s sad sojourn.
