I write poetry because it helps me make sense of the world around and inside me. It piques my interest in the past and prods me to think more about the present and the future. I find the act of writing poetry joyful and self-reinforcing, even when the content of my poems is about sad or traumatic events. Please visit my website: martinlevinson.com.
Cleaning Up My Act
I find it pleasurable to
pen poems, essays,
and letters to the editor
of big and small papers
that sometimes get
published while dishes
pile up in the sink, crumbs
lie about on the floor, and
dust bunnies sprawl under
chairs in the living room
where I sit on the sofa,
lost in my reveries, thinking
of what I will write about
next, hooked to a mind that
resists mundane matters,
keen to clean up a sentence
but not a damn tub.
