October 2017
After teaching at a college in South Florida for thirty years, I retired, and my wife and I have traveled around the country, and moved twice in the past two years. Now that we are settled, we are looking forward to exploring our new city and making new friends. Some of my poems have appeared recently in such journals as The Broken Plate, The Comstock Review, Exit 7, The Lake, and Third Wednesday. Amsterdam Press published a chapbook of my poems entitled The Arboriculturist in 2010. Check out my author's page on Facebook or go to my blog at http://www.michaelminassian.com.
REJECTION SLIP
This morning’s email brought a rejection
letter from a literary magazine
at first I assumed, they have no taste,
before shaking off the thought
and searching for another home
for my small sheaf of poems
but what I regretted most was the loss
of slitting open the envelope
(the one I had addressed myself)
and reading the pre-printed letter
unfortunately, this is not for us
and best of luck elsewhere
missing the sound of crumpling paper
and the satisfying thunk as it hit
the rim of the garbage pail
lost now, alas, to the deep
silence of the digital age;
try us again sometime the email read.
