I was raised in New Jersey, but live in La Mirada, CA for years. I don't experience the "empty nest syndrome" as my family has moved back in along with their pets. I'm a long-time member of Donna Hilbert's poetry workshop in Long Beach. Some of my work has appeared in Chiron Review, Pearl, YDP, Silver Birch anthologies, and in my poetry book, WHY I MISS NEW JERSEY. I'm currently working on a book of short stories.
Confetti
Sometimes I can’t go back to say good-bye
Caught up in my everyday routine
I lose bits and pieces of my life
The cup of coffee we share together
May be all that I’ll remember of today
Sometimes I can’t go back to say good-bye
The babysitting and chauffeuring
leave me without much time for pleasure
I’m losing bits and pieces of my life
Now there’s no time for a peck on the cheek
At night we always spoon, then fall asleep
Sometimes I can’t go back to say good-bye
I connect with an old friend on the phone
She reminds me that life is full of surprise
I’ll lose bits and pieces of my life
Like confetti blowing in the wind
Somehow the music and dance are gone
I know I can’t go back to say good-bye
I’ve lost bits and pieces of my life
