"A Scene" was written in 1970 after seeing Michelangelo's Pieta in Rome and at the same time experiencing the disillusionment of the televised atrocities of the Vietnam war. Website: triciaknoll.com
A Scene
In the black silken lap of Meurtra La Fois
Lies the drooling quiet head of Cornelius, her son,
Whose eyes slowly spin in rhythm
With the gray curls of his dusty hair.
Three bluebirds watch the motionless solitude,
study the angle of his reclining eyes.
A moment ago they chirped a reveille
but only a black crackling fold
unwound to chase the fly from her knee
into the monotonous gray humid sky.
Here I am at my graduation ceremony for my Master's Degree from Yale University, 1970. I was the only one not in a cap and gown. The photo was widely distributed with a caption saying "Yale Graduation" from the wire services in U.S. News & World Report, the New Haven Register, and the New York Daily News.
