So, at the tender age of seventeen, in the midst of all that angst and joy, I seemed to have been concerned as well with weightier matters. Sister Mary Berchmans of senior English was impressed, and chose my poem to be published in an anthology of high school poetry. I don't recall telling anyone about this, as it probably would not have been cool... My poems and photos may be found at my website Mimi's Golightly Cafe.
April, 1959
I stand and watch
the leaves drift by
and think with a little sorrow
how quickly time can fly.
Soon the winter winds will blow
another year away
and once again Spring will come
sweetly with the May.
Then I'll watch the leaves again
drifting red and gold
and soon another and another year
the shelves of Time will hold.
The years will go on flying by
and with it life so fast, and
soon there will be nothing --
only the seasons forever last.
I stand and watch
the leaves drift by
and think with a little sorrow
how quickly time can fly.
Soon the winter winds will blow
another year away
and once again Spring will come
sweetly with the May.
Then I'll watch the leaves again
drifting red and gold
and soon another and another year
the shelves of Time will hold.
The years will go on flying by
and with it life so fast, and
soon there will be nothing --
only the seasons forever last.
