I live in Wisconsin's Chippewa Valley area, where I write, draw and paint, and often photograph my natural surroundings. I enjoy spending time outdoors, biking, boating, and fishing with my husband, and taking walks with our dog, a thirteen-year-old golden doodle named Yogi. My poems and photography appear in Portage Magazine and other journals. My fifth book, The Wingspan of Things, is forthcoming from Dancing Girl Press. To learn more, please visit www.jrcreative.biz.
Three Wise Men Walk into a Bar...
Like clockwork, every Saturday at three o'clock,
The Three Wise Men would enter Thirsty's Third
Street Pub. Before evening mass, since they were
wise, they'd typically have a beverage (or three).
Gin-based cocktails were their go-to drinks:
bramble's, corpse reviver's, and gin basil smash's.
Whenever the threesome entered the pub,
the bartenders were elated for they could rely
upon the wise men's generosity.
They appreciated the lavish tips, the bags of gold,
plus the frankincense and myrrh was popular
with their wives (essential oils and all).
After a few hours, the men would leave Thirsty's
much wiser, for they'd inevitably announce,
Hey, church can wait; we'd best secure our sheets,
all three seem to be weavin' and wobblin'―
in the wind!
