Pandemic Poems - APRIL 2020
Author's Note: I've been wanting to write a spell poem, and a spell against the corona virus seems like something we could use right now.
Gather your soap Bring out your soap Scented and unscented Dish and laundry Foam and scum Little hotel soap Filthy gas station soap Homemade and factory made Soap of laborers soap of celebrities True soap and beauty soap Lye soap and soft soap Cold press and triple milled Soap of plants and oils Of lavender and frankincense Soap for waking up Soap for falling asleep Soap on a rope Soap that floats like hope Soap made of bark and roots Of shells and high tide Soap of the moon and the Milky Way Soap that burns and soap Of no more tears Soap like lava Soap like silk Soap of lovers in a tub Lathering each other Soap rubbed silently on the body For burial Soap bubbled and blown into ovals Drifting rainbowed over us Bursting for no reason we see Soap for the visible dirt Soap for the unseeable disease Gather them Bring them out Add them to a bowl woven from sweet grass Slowly stir until smooth while staring Fear in the eye and calling On the mountains and the wind To forgive us To cleanse us once and for all
