Bio Note: I received a BA in English from the University of Iowa and MA in English Literature from Oklahoma State University. Since the pandemic, my two children ask me to play around 20 or so times a day, and on the 21st time, I usually relent. Work has appeared in The Summerset Review, One Sentence Poems, Two Drops of Ink, and others. I’m English Faculty at Mohave Community College in Arizona.

Saturday at the Casino

If you ever want to feel
like a high roller for once
place 9-months of salary
onto the counter,
hear the click-clack
of chips laid in rows.
Stroll table to table
knuckle roll chip trick,
eyes sneak glances
at yellow stacks
never for any wager
mere props in the show.
Return home even,
fall asleep in your rental suit.
